From the American Advertising Hall of Fame Awards

HOST:
Today we recognize the accomplishments of individuals who - through their creativity, originality and ingenuity - have left an indelible imprint on the advertising industry.

They transformed the way people perceive products, services, and the companies that offer them. They helped shape business and build them into giants. They turned unknown commodities into household names. For their lifetime of leadership it is our privilege to honor them today.

This Golden Ladder trophy, designed by Bill Bernbach, with inscription by Tom Dillon, reads, "If we can see further, it is because we stand on the rungs of a ladder built by those who came before us." The other reason we in advertising stand tall is because we wear so many hats. We’re part psychologist, part statistician, part sociologist, part mind-reader - and 100 percent professional. As a result, in advertising, anything’s possible. A dog can make a sandwich as long as it lays it paws on a jar of Miracle Whip. Bob Dole can be spokesman for the treatment of E.D. and Amazon.dot.com can request warehouse space from the Vatican.

HOST BRIAN WILLIAMS, NBC:
Often that big marketing or creative breakthrough you search for - the 'aha' comes to you in the shower, or in your car, or even while making love. As one Creative Director once said "That was no climax. That was my next headline."
